----- it wasn't, strictly speaking, warm enough weather in her eternally rainy home town for the shorts and tank top she were but she was holding on to summer as long as she could, it was times like these where she missed texas more and more even though it held her mother and the new family she'd started that leah had never really felt apart of. now that she was finally eighteen she didn't really have to worry about it anymore, she was no longer forced to go and visit them every summer and every other holiday and she didn't have to eek out a weekly phone call even though her father had heavily encouraged. between her job, school and riding she had a good enough excuse to say she had forgotten to call, sure it frustrated her dad, but there wasn't much he could do about it. he'd done all that he could before, but now she was an adult... sort of. she was at least on her way to becoming a semi-responsible adult. the fact she was out today about a week and half before university classes started finally shopping for supplies may not have been proof of that but her summer had been busy, busier then normal as she'd taken on more at the stables, which had turned out to interfere with the amount of time she'd been able to spend with her friends and going out with them but it had given her a nice little blanket in her normally meager bank account and since she was sick of being the one that could barely eek out her share it was totally worth it. however it had also cut into her school shopping time which with a best friend as kick ass at sewing and designing as briar the clothes part wasn't such an issue but looking through the other essentials after all the other people had gotten their shopping done was more then a pain. she'd already spent too much time in town today with no luck finding half the things she needed and she was getting frustrated, couple that with a lack of coffee and staying up most of the night with her dad delivering a horse her patience were thin, thinner then normal. sifting through the bins of binders that were either ugly colors or already broken she finally groaned, stopped and pinched the bridge of her nose, this was going to be impossible. she should've gotten all this stuff at the student store when she'd gone to buy her books, she was pretty sure someone had tried to impart that little nugget of wisdom on her too and she'd ignored it. good job, leah. running a hand through her thick blonde hair, she pushed a heavy breath through her lips, her stomach growling and she decided that she really just needed a break. she'd gotten most of the stuff she needed, it'd get her through the first week and after that she could stock up in the student store. she headed towards the exit, it probably didn't help she hadn't made a drive to the busier part of town with bigger stores, but she was grumpy no way did she need to be around that many people. adjusting her bag on her arm she pushed down her sunglasses and she stepped into the dully shining afternoon and took a left fown the sidewalk heading towards the small parking lot where she'd had her truck parked, hearing her phone ring she reached for her pocket to feel it vibrating against her side in her purse, she looked down into digging through it as she walked until she walked into something solid and warm, and because she was just in that kind of mood, it didn't matter she was not the one paying attention, “dude, what th-” her words stopped short as she pushed her long bangs from her face, “declan?” she said, her irritation drying up replaced by a little nostalgia and the butterflies that had never really gone away even though he'd been gone for what felt like twenty years, “oh my god, declan!” she said, her excitement raising her voice and she threw her arms around his neck, ignoring the weird looks it had earned from the passing people, “why didn't you tell me you were back, jerk?” she questioned not letting go of him yet.
